President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) appointed lawyer Carol Proner, wife of musician Chico Buarque, to the Public Ethics Commission of the Presidency of the Republic. The appointment was published this Saturday (23) in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union.

Proner will have a three-year term on the Commission, an advisory body to the president that aims to ensure that federal public authorities respect the Code of Conduct of Senior Federal Administration.

The penalties imposed by the Commission range from warning and censure to indication of dismissal or investigation of disciplinary transgression by the General Comptroller of the Union (CGU). The Commission’s work is considered “the provision of a relevant public service” and is not remunerated.

Proner, 49 years old, is a professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and was part of the transition team for the Lula government in the technical group dedicated to Justice and Public Security.

Married to Chico Buarque since 2021, Proner is also part of Prerrogativas, a group of Lulista lawyers created in 2015 that became known for positions contrary to the Lava Jato task force.
