Athlete Luisa Baptista, 29, woke up this Sunday (24) without any new complications and remains in serious condition in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Santa Casa de São Carlos, in the interior of São Paulo. Coagulation and the lung, says the hospital, require more attention.
Champion at the Pan-American Games in Lima in 2019, Luísa was run over by a motorcycle as she cycled along the Abel Terrugi municipal highway (SCA-329), on Saturday.
According to the medical bulletin released by Santa Casa on Sunday morning, she remains under intensive care without the need for further surgical interventions.
“Luisa wakes up without any new complications. Coagulation and lungs are now the organs and systems most affected and require the most attention. Luisa remains in serious condition”, states the medical bulletin.
The triathlete, who defends Sesi-SP, was admitted to the hospital with severe polytrauma, with injuries to the right lung, and fractures in several arches of the back and right leg.
According to the Civil Police, the man who ran over Luisa did not have a driver’s license, and the motorcycle was seized. The incident report was recorded as culpable bodily injury. The highway is emptied and is usually used for training.
The triathlete was champion in the individual and mixed category at the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru, in 2019. She was the first Brazilian woman to win the title in triathlon.
Luisa also won silver (2018) and bronze (2017) in two stages of the triathlon World Cup and represented Brazil at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
The COB (Brazilian Olympic Committee) monitors the athlete’s situation and expressed solidarity through its social networks.
