Manaus and 54 other municipalities in Amazonas had their October installment brought forward

Manaus – Caixa Econômica Federal branches and several lottery outlets were left with kilometric queues on the morning of this Wednesday (18), in Manaus, due to the advance of the October installment of Bolsa Família for beneficiaries affected by the severe drought in rivers in Amazonas.

The scenario was repeated in at least 54 other municipalities in the state that are in an emergency situation due to this year’s drought.

The situation happened because the Federal Government chose this Wednesday as the day for the payment of social benefits, regardless of the last digit of the Social Identification Number (NIS). However, the lack of money and the slowness of the system were factors that contributed to many complaints.

This is the case of housewife Iraci Uchoa dos Santos, who left the Campos Sales neighborhood, to try to receive Bolsa Família in another lottery in which they said they had money to pay, at the Compensa Municipal Fair.

“I’ve been here since 8 am and I haven’t even had a coffee trying to receive my Bolsa Família. I already left the Campos Sales neighborhood, because near my house there was chaos and no one was receiving anything. But it’s the same story here too, that there’s no money or there’s no system”, said the housewife.

The beneficiary says she was happy to receive the information that the receipt of Bolsa Família had been advanced in view of the problems caused by the drought.

“I was very happy when my friend said that today we would be paying our Bolsa Família ahead of schedule, due to what we are experiencing due to this river drought. Many who live off fishing no longer have anything to eat at home. Now we just need to be able to receive it and go home”, she concluded.

The anticipation of Bolsa Família was just one of the Federal Government’s actions to minimize the impacts caused by the drought.

The others are:

• Advance of a portion of the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC), which corresponds to a minimum wage, and if the beneficiary requests, advance another installment, which can be reimbursed in up to 36 months, without interest or charges, for municipalities in Amazonas that are in a situation of public calamity recognized by the Federal Government, not valid for locations in an emergency situation;
• Transfer of extraordinary resources to the social assistance network, which provides support and protection services to the population by offering temporary accommodation, care and material supplies, according to identified needs;
• Sending food baskets;
• Allocation of resources through Rural Development, in the amount of R$4,600, to small farmers who had lost production, among others.
