The liberal group Livres released a note this Wednesday (10) in which it criticizes the decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, to order Telegram to remove a text criticizing the Fake News PL from the air.
“By determining Telegram’s retraction for manifestation contrary to PL 2630, the Federal Supreme Court acts as guardian of the acceptable opinion, an attitude entirely incompatible with the role of a Supreme Court in liberal democracies”, says the text.
According to Livres, Telegram has the right to demonstrate against a change in legislation that could harm the functioning of the tool.
“If a possible regulation may affect the service provided by a company to its consumers, it is fully entitled to inform them of its assessment regarding the possible regulatory impacts. Regardless of the merits of any authority”, says the group, which he is suprapartisan and defines himself as a defender of freedom in all its spheres.
On Tuesday (9), Telegram distributed to its users a message against the project saying that it would end freedom of expression. Moraes then ordered the removal of the content from the air, under penalty of blocking the tool in Brazil, which was fulfilled in the early afternoon of Wednesday (10).
