‘Living Our Center’ takes the second group to tour the revitalization area of Manaus City Hall

Manaus (AM) – tour was held this Saturday, 2/9, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, and even with the proximity of the long holiday, more than 30 people were present making the heritage, historical, architectural and cultural tour, in addition to following how the works of the ” Nosso Centro”, launched by Mayor David Almeida, which will be delivered in December of this year.
“I came to visit Manaus for the first time, my son is in the city working in the environmental area. Despite having a lot of information, having visited the city museum, participating in the technical visit with specialists is much richer and more exciting. And knowing this city hall project, to make the population value their city, learn about its history, and get involved, is fantastic. I didn’t know about this work and it was great to be able to participate”, explained Márcia.
Architecture student Samantha Gomes also joined the group and highlighted the importance of heritage and historical value to buildings and architectural references in the capital.
“I always expected to have this more architectural explanation in the tourist spots and in the Center, especially in the big houses, and finally there was this meeting and I couldn’t miss this opportunity. I am in love with the Center and this route was just what was needed to show the public the historical, archaeological and architectural aspects of this beautiful city complex”, commented the university student.
The circuit passes through buildings, heritage sites, squares and streets, on a tour set up by technicians from the Municipal Institute of Urban Planning (Implurb), with support from the Municipal Foundation for Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult), the Municipal Secretary of Labor, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (Semtepi), and the Technical Commission for the Implementation and Revitalization of the Historic Center of Manaus.
Participation is made upon prior registration, for groups of up to 25 people, to carry out the heritage, cultural and educational tour in areas of the capital. Visits will take place until November, always on Saturdays, with a meeting point at Praça Dom Pedro II.
For those interested in participating in the program, the Historical Heritage Management (GPH) team publishes the link for registration 10 days before each Saturday. The next link, for the visit on 9/16, will be posted on Implurb’s Instagram next Wednesday, 9/6, at 12 pm.
Implurb’s Director of Urban Planning, architect and urbanist Pedro Paulo Cordeiro, participates in the guided tour, showing the importance of the program, the interventions that are being carried out and the axes of the work, with a focus on attracting more life, more business and more history for the territory.
“One of these axes fits exactly with visits. It is necessary to know the Center, the history, what happened here in this area and the interventions that are being carried out in order, of course, to experience the space, to have this belonging. Hence the name of the program ‘Our Center’, because it is a collective construction, it belongs to everyone”, he said.
The architect recalled that, as of December, Manaus is already starting to experience revitalization with the set of works being delivered, in addition to being able to admire the natural potential on the banks of the Negro River. “The program aims to promote this interaction between the natural landscape and what can be built”.
Construction
The City Hall is currently carrying out three urban works in the Centre, which are expected to be inaugurated in December this year: Lúcia Almeida viewpoint, Thiago de Mello mansion and São Vicente square. The circuit passes through construction sites, but first, it starts at Praça Dom Pedro II, heading to the Museum of the City of Manaus (Muma), at Paço da Liberdade, and Rua Bernardo Ramos. The group passes through the first interventions of “Nosso Centro”, with a passage through the Carolina lane. The circuit ends with a trip to the Rio Branco Palace.
Historical and architectural contextualization is carried out at all points, with an emphasis on styles and typologies and, in the case of ongoing interventions by the city hall, the emphasis will be on the type of construction and adaptation to the new use.
Territory
The revitalization, requalification and regeneration of the Historic Center of Manaus focuses on the best use of the central region, a place that holds valuable cultural and heritage wealth. “Our Center” aims at the economic rescue of the area, involving actions in the economy, tourism, history, entrepreneurship, culture, art and housing.
