With the support of the Government of Amapá, the event “Observando no Meio do Mundo” attracted a crowd to follow the phenomenon ‘blue supermoon’, at the Marco Zero monument, in Macapá. The action was organized by the Mirzam Astronomy Club and allowed the population to observe more closely the event considered rare and which will only happen again in 11 years, in 2034.
During this event, the full moon was close to perigee, which is when it is less than 360,000 kilometers from Earth. In this way, it could be seen up to 14% larger than normal and 30% brighter. For journalism student Liliane Pereira, “Observando no Meio do Mundo” provided her first contact with a telescope. “It was enchanting, I have always been an admirer of the Moon, and it is much more beautiful than what we normally see. I was extremely delighted with the details, as if it had several bright and very white holes! I felt fulfilled with this experience”.
Tourism Product – The State Secretariat for Tourism (Setur) is responsible for administering the monument. For the portfolio manager, Anne Monte, there would be no better place to receive this action. “It is customary for Marco Zero to host events related to astronomy, such as the Water and Spring equinoxes, and the Monument’s tower itself is dedicated to the sun, so it’s only fair to host an event dedicated to the moon. Not to mention that initiatives like this are very useful, which arouse curiosity about a science as interesting as astronomy”, explained Secretary Anne.
The president of the Mirzam Club, Germán Neto, believes that the event exceeded his expectations, attracting a larger audience than expected, which demonstrates the interest of people from Amapa for astronomy. “Next is the solar eclipse that we will have on October 14th”, it says.
