Literatus inaugurates Radiology laboratory with modern equipment

The laboratory unites theoretical teaching and practical teaching

Manaus (AM) – The Centro de Ensino Literatus inaugurated, this week, its second Radiology Laboratory, in the Paraíba unit. With modern equipment, the new space simulates the practice where X-ray exams are performed.

The inauguration was attended by one of the groups from the Radiology technical course. The students were introduced to the new laboratory with a practical exposition of how it should be used.

For Literatus’ pedagogical coordinator, Mariele Marques, the new laboratory reinforces the center’s commitment to making teaching-learning more dynamic.

“We want our students to actually have practical experience, in addition to their contact with theory. It is the safety of learning, making your learning more meaningful. In addition to all the theoretical part, the practice in the laboratory makes the students feel safer”,

affirm.

The director-president of Literatus, Elaine Saldanha, also highlights the active methodologies applied at the center, in which students are encouraged to solve real problems and many of them in the laboratory spaces.

“Practice is fundamental within the teaching-learning process at Literatus and we are proud to inaugurate the second Radiology laboratory, ensuring society that our students see in practice what they will experience in health units”,

stands out.

Ally in medical diagnosis

Who hasn’t been through an X-ray machine in their life and, even more, who never hoped that the exam didn’t need to be redone? Radiology is one of the main allies for a good medical diagnosis and knowing how to manipulate the equipment and position the patient correctly are fundamental for the exam to be well done.

Professor and technologist in Radiology, Maria Alcinei Mendonça, explains the importance of practical classes, especially when students undergo the mandatory internship. “At that time, they will work directly with patients. So, they already need to know what they are going to do there. Even they only go to the internship if they really know how to handle the equipment and position the patient”, she explains.

In the laboratory, the students do not have contact with ionizing radiation, but in real life both he and the patients do. That’s why it’s so important to know how to do an exam without the patient having to be exposed to radiation again, emphasizes Maria Alcinei.

The Literatus radiology laboratory is composed of fixed x-ray equipment and its accessories, a dark room where students are taught how the images (films) were processed in the automatic processor and negatoscopes for better image analysis.

Students looking forward to practice

Jessica Coelho da Silva is a student of the technical course in Radiology. She says that she always liked the health area and that she saw Radiology as a great option for working in this market. She was happy to meet the new laboratory because she knows the importance of practice within the activity.

Tiago Cativo has been studying Radiology for 6 months. It is his first contact with the Health area and he was also looking forward to taking practical classes. “The laboratory is absolutely necessary because we know that we can learn a lot in theory, but without practice, we cannot go very far”comments.
