The list of higher education institutions that will offer places for the 2024 Unified Selection System (Sisu) is now available for consultation. There are 127 universities, distributed throughout the country, and 264,360 places, most of them for full-time courses , with 121,750 places for quotas and 19,899 for the institution’s own affirmative action.
Registration for the selection process begins on January 22nd. Students can choose between federal, state, municipal institutions and the Federal Network for Professional, Scientific and Technological Education.
According to the Ministry of Education (MEC), the list of entities with the highest number of vacancies is led by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), with 9,240 vacancies. Next are the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), with 8,788, and the Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB), with 7,750.
Among state public institutions, the State University of Paraíba (UEPB) has the largest number of vacancies, with almost 6 thousand opportunities. Second place went to the State University of Piauí (Uespi), with 4,215; and the third, with the State University of Bahia (Uneb), which will offer 2,610. Regarding the offer of Sisu in a municipal public higher education institution, the only participant in the program is the Municipal Faculty of Education and Environment (Fama), in Paraná, with 86 places.
From 2024, Sisu will only have one edition per year. The program selects students for places at public universities across the country based on their score on the National High School Exam (Enem). Created in 2009 and implemented in 2010, Sisu was traditionally held twice a year, selecting students for higher education places in both the first and second semesters of each year.
The system brings together on the same platform the vacancies offered by public higher education institutions, whether federal, state or municipal. To participate, students must have taken the latest edition of the Enem and cannot have received a zero in the writing test.
When registering, candidates can choose up to two course options in which they wish to apply for places. Once a day, during the registration period, the cut-off score for each course is published, based on the grades of candidates enrolled up to that point. Students can change their course option up until the last day of registration.
The edition at the beginning of the year had the largest participation of institutions and had the largest number of vacancies. In the first edition of 2023, 226,399 places were offered in 6,402 undergraduate courses in 128 federal, state or municipal educational institutions, 63 of which were federal universities. The second edition of 2023 made 51,277 places available in 1,666 undergraduate courses, from 65 higher education institutions.
