The mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), will install next Tuesday (6) the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) to investigate financial pyramids that use cryptocurrencies. Board members will also be elected. The act of creation was read by the 1st vice president of the Board, deputy Marcos Pereira (Republicanos-SP).

The CPI will have a term of 120 days, extendable for up to 60 days, informed the Chamber Agency. The collegiate will be formed by 32 holders and 32 alternates, who will be appointed by party leaders. The date for installing the CPI has not yet been defined.

Proposed by Deputy Áureo Ribeiro (Solidariedade-RJ) with the support of 171 deputies, the CPI will investigate 11 companies, identified by the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), that would have carried out fraudulent operations using cryptocurrencies. These companies are accused of using false information about projects and promises of high or guaranteed profitability to attract victims and support a financial pyramid scheme.
