The mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), defended this Thursday (9) the autonomy of the Central Bank, approved by Congress in 2021. For Lira, the independence of the BC is a “world brand” and “will not retroact ”. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has criticized the performance of the autarchy. The deputy’s statement was made during the Rural Show, in Cascavel (PR), reported Estadão.

“I have the listening, the tendency of what the majority of the plenary thinks. With regard to the independence of the Central Bank, this matter will not be retroactive”, said the president of the Chamber. “The independent Central Bank is a world brand, Brazil needs to insert itself in this context”, he added.

This Wednesday (8), the minister of the Secretariat for Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, said that there is “no discussion” in the federal government to change the law that gave autonomy to the Central Bank. The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), pointed out that the independence of the autarchy “removes political criteria from a body that has a very strong technical aspect”.
