Lira predicts the installation of Sports Betting CPI on Wednesday

The President of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), assesses that the three Parliamentary Commissions of Inquiry approved by the House will be installed and will start this Wednesday, 17. The CPIs of the Landless Movement (MST), Lojas Americanas and Sports Betting will be discussed at the meeting of leaders scheduled for later this afternoon, said the president of the Chamber.
In an interview with Band TV, Lira demanded changes in the political articulation of the Lula government in Congress. “As long as the government does not take a position in relation to believing, delegating, decentralizing, making things happen more fluidly, while it remains locked down, each one wanting to own a share to demonstrate more activity before the President of the Republic, things won’t walk,” he said.
The president of the Chamber avoided “pointing the finger” at one or another minister about the Executive’s difficulties in maintaining dialogue with the Chamber, but had already put the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, in the spotlight, whom he defined as a “fine and educated, but who has had difficulties” about two weeks ago in an interview with the newspaper O Globo.
On the last day 2, Lira participated in a meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, when he demanded the payment of amendments and the release of positions. As Estadão showed, after the meeting, Lula decided to personally take on negotiations with Congress and, last week, authorized the payment of R$ 4 billion in remaining amendments to the secret budget in the Bolsonaro government.
Despite the criticism, he ruled out that he might break with the PT government. “A lot has been speculated about a probable breakup. There is no possibility, I would not be irresponsible of, as president of the Chamber, breaking relations with the government”, he declared. “Brazil would resent it.”
At a decisive moment for the government’s articulation in parliament, given the installation of the CPMI on Coup Acts and the CPI of the MST in the Chamber, Lira recommended that “no disdain be given” to investigations into the MST. “Not only will the MST be targeted, but all movements that carry out acts for which the object was requested, are various agrarian movements”, she said, while rejecting invasions of productive lands.
Lira highlights the importance of the Sports Betting CPI
He also highlighted the importance of the Sports Betting CPI and defended the regulation of the sector. “The Chamber has already voted on the regulation of games, it has been waiting for a decision from the Senate for over a year (…) It is clear the influence of these online bets, which today sponsor 100% of Brazilian clubs, the CBF itself, in influencing results”, he said.
Regarding the CPI of Lojas Americanas, he demanded focus and care in the investigations. “It is so wide that you have to be very careful with the facts that have come to light and are worrisome in relation to the activities of auditing companies and the CVM in relation to the Stock Exchange”, stated Lira, who then reiterated that she did not believe that the parliamentary investigations could end up paralyzing activities in the Chamber.
