The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), criticized the statements given by Minister Rui Costa (Casa Civil) according to which, in Brasília, for many, doing wrong is right. Lira did not name the minister, but asked for “restraint” from the ministers and stated that these statements “do not help”.

Lira’s lines were given in an interview with CNN Brasil this Monday morning (5) in a context in which the mayor denied having asked for a change of ministers in the Lula government.

The parliamentarian said that there are ministries that are “strictly personal” to the President of the Republic, including the Civil House, the Secretariat for Institutional Relations and the Treasury, classifying them as part of the president’s individual quota.

“Nobody is wanting to nominate anyone. Nobody is wanting to choose anyone,” said Lira.

“But these ministers must be restrained, especially with statements. One of the joint ministers made a statement about Brasilia this weekend that caused a lot of stir in parties from left to right. These things do not help and the government will know take a course, a decision on what to do”, said Lira.

At an event in Bahia, on Friday (2), Rui also said that the federal capital is a fantasy island, an illusory bubble. “Brasília is difficult. It is difficult because doing what is right there, for many, is wrong. And doing wrong, for many, is what is right in their minds”, he said during the inauguration in Itaberaba.

“You can be sure. Brasilia will not change me and I will fight with all my strength to change Brasilia and change that way of looking at what is a public thing. I call that Fantasy Island”, said Rui.

In this Monday’s interview, Lira again said that the role of the mayor is to be a “facilitator” of matters and said that it is necessary to demystify that there are clashes between him and President Lula (PT).

“Our role is to be a facilitator, it is to demystify this constant arm wrestling between Lula and Lira and Lira and Lula. That does not exist. . Now, Congress is a liberal Congress, which has its own guidelines and has matters that are absolutely difficult to be dealt with in the plenary of that House”, he continued.

Earlier, Lira met with President Lula at the Alvorada Palace. The meeting took place after a week of clashes between the Planalto and the head of the Legislative House, with criticism of the political articulation and a request for a ministerial reform to make room for centrist parties.
