Lira: articulation crisis only ends with a single interlocutor – 06/05/2023 – Panel

For the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), the crisis in the political articulation of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will only be resolved when there is a single interlocutor between the government and Congress, and who has ink in his pen to solve problems.

Lula received Lira at the Alvorada Palace this Monday (5th) for breakfast. The meeting took place after a week of clashes between Planalto and the command of the Legislative House.

According to the president of the Chamber, he told interlocutors, the conversation helps to trim edges, but it is not enough. In Lira’s assessment, the government needs to organize itself internally before talking to Congress.

In recent days, the Ministers of the Civil House, Rui Costa, and of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, who share the relationship with the parliamentarians, have been the target of criticism by the parliamentarians.

Deputies complain about the Casa Civil’s slowness in releasing amendments and appointing nominees to political positions and regret the emptying of the folder commanded by Padilha, whose agreements are no longer fulfilled by the others.

There are also complaints of “political insensitivity” and reports of politicians who were surprised by the presence of ministers in their states, without having been invited to the ceremonies.

In an interview with CNN after breakfast, Lira reported having spoken with Lula about a “more effective arrangement of the government base in the Chamber and the Senate”. And she added that the government starts to organize itself this week.

Still in the interview, he denied having dealt with ministerial reform. “The president did not even mention this possibility. I did not deal with ministries, I did not deal with the release of amendments or the release of spaces.”

“I think the warning that was given [sobre] the difficulties that occurred last week were a good message for the government to recompose its path”, said Lira.
