The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, informed, on the night of this Monday (16), that the security of the Federal District will be reinforced for the inauguration of the federal deputies and senators on the 1st of February. According to Lira, the objective is to avoid new invasions like those that occurred, on the last 8th, in Brasília. “Our concern now is with the inauguration of 513 deputies and 81 senators”, he said.

The announcement of the security reinforcement was given by Lira during a visit to the Military Police Battalion, responsible for ostensive patrolling in the Praça dos Três Poderes area. He was accompanied by the acting governor of the DF, Celina Leão, and the Public Security intervenor, Ricardo Cappeli.

Lira defended a “very rigid preventive security plan” and stated that “all planning is being taken care of so that there are no surprises”.

The interim governor of the DF stated that the local government is considering expanding the battalion’s staff from the current 248 military police to at least 500. “Our initial idea is to provide the necessary conditions and improve this structure”, said Celina Leão.
