Light heavyweight belt changes hands after interruption due to deep cut in the champion’s shin

Glory 83 took place last Saturday in Germany. The light heavyweight belt dispute between the former champion Sergej Maslobojev (Lithuania) and the Surinamese challenger Donegi Abena had to be ended by medical decision.
After three balanced rounds, Maslobojev applied a low kick (kick in the thigh). Abena raised her leg to block and the Lithuanian fighter’s shin hit his opponent’s knee, opening a deep cut.
The event doctor evaluated the injury and quickly decided there was no way to continue. The Lithuanian complained a lot about the decision and stormed out of the ring. But nothing has changed. Match ended and belt secured for Abena, who at 24 became the youngest champion in Glory’s history.
In the main co-event of the night, Brazilian César Almeida had three even rounds against middleweight champion Donovan Wisse. As the kickboxer from São Paulo did not reach the category limit (85kg) at the official weigh-in on Friday, the dispute changed to just three rounds, and the belt would not be at stake.
Almeida, had good moments during the fight, especially with the variations of kicks on the opponent’s legs, but Wisse was more precise in the combinations of blows and won by unanimous decision of the referees.
Another Brazilian who would be in action would be Joilton Peregrino, who would face Frenchman Diaguely Camara at welterweight. But the Paraiba native also had problems with the weight cut and was vetoed after one of the medical evaluations, mandatory for the event during the process. With that, the fight was cancelled.
