LGBTQIA+ parliamentarians will meet in Brasília – 01/17/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

About 15 elected LGBTQIA+ parliamentarians and nine organizations dedicated to the cause will meet in Brasília, next weekend, to discuss the representativeness of the segment in politics and share data that may be interesting for future terms.

A plenary session with the participation of secretaries from the Lula government, which will address trans visibility month, is also planned.

Baptized as the “National Meeting of LGBT+ Elections of Brazil”, with mention to neutral language, the event is held by the organization VoteLGBT. According to the entity, 18 LGBTQIA+ candidacies emerged victorious from last year’s election – the highest number since 2014, when the survey began.

Names elected to the Chamber of Deputies such as Duda Salabert (PDT-MG) and Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP) have already confirmed their presence at the meeting, as well as state and district deputies elected, who will participate in activities scheduled for Saturday (21) and the Sunday (22).

The federal government, in turn, will be represented by the secretary for the Promotion and Defense of the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People, Symmy Larrat, by the executive secretary of the Ministry of Racial Equality, Roberta Eugênio, and by the special advisor to the Ministry of Justice, Sheila de Carvalho.

“The event aims to celebrate the significant electoral success in the 2022 elections, with twice as many elected representatives and the first two trans congressional parliamentarians, in addition to promoting a space for recognition and articulation between parliamentarians”, says the director of VoteLGBT+, Gui Mohallem.

The event, held on Monday night (16), had the singers Salgadinho, Mumuzinho and Xande de Pilares as attractions. Former Corinthians president Andrés Sanchez was there.
