Considering the positive national scenario, left-wing parties may have their own candidacy for Mayor of Manaus

Manaus (AM) – Given the polarized climate that precedes the 2024 election for the Mayor of Manaus, left-wing parties, especially the Brazilian Federation of Hope, which has the participation of PT, PCdoB and PV, are moving towards defining the alternative candidacy. Former federal deputy José Ricardo (PT), one of the possible names to be nominated, asks for the choice to be made quickly so as not to compromise his candidacy.

In addition to José Ricardo, other names are highlighted to be nominated by the federation, such as state deputy Sinésio Campos and the national secretary for women, Anne Moura, both from PT, and engineer Eron Bezerra, from PCdoB.

“Most of the groups defend that the PT has its own candidacy for mayor. I even regret that it should have already been defined because, like other elections, the party leaves it until the last minute, so when it decides on the candidacy, sometimes, it cannot achieve broader articulation and ends up being harmed”,

reflected José Ricardo.

According to the former federal deputy, the 2024 election differs from previous ones due to the need for dialogue between the party and the federation. Furthermore, he points out that the Green Party (PV) does not have much of an ideological relationship with the PT and PCdoB, but, as it is present in the national federation, the three parties must continue together.

The Brazilian Federation of Hope will hold, this Friday (24), a meeting to discuss issues related to the 2024 election, at the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam). Due to the majority of votes in the federation being from the National Directorate of the Workers’ Party, there will possibly be priority for a party candidacy.

“I defend that the PT has a candidacy, therefore, that the federation also has one, and that a progressive alliance can be formed with other parties, within our field, such as the PDT, PSB, PSOL and Rede”,

he stated.

For José Ricardo, there is a favorable scenario for the PT’s majority candidacy, due to the Federal Government’s actions in favor of the population of Amazonas and Manauara, and that, since the inauguration of President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Amazonas is being benefited.

On the other hand, political analyst Carlos Santiago contested the positive situation in Amazonas, despite the success of left-wing acronyms at the national level.

“Even if they make a unity movement, put forward a name to compete for the majority positions and have the support of President Lula, the prospect of growth in elections for mayors presents very difficult conditions, making the scenario negative”,

explained.

The expert also pointed out that there is an aging of left-wing parties in the State and the acronyms do not have new political leaders.

Right movement

The opposition is also organizing itself to launch a candidacy for the municipal elections, according to state deputy Delegado Péricles (PL). After a meeting, last Thursday (23), with leaders and the president of the Liberal Party in Amazonas (PL-AM), Alfredo Nascimento, the parliamentarian assured that the party will have a candidate and made his name available for planning the claim.

Delegate Péricles participated in another meeting, on Wednesday (22), this time with the honorary president of the PL, Jair Bolsonaro, and the national president of the party, Valdemar da Costa Neto, to discuss the actions to be taken for the strengthening the right-wing movement in Amazonas.
