Leaders of benches are defined in Parliament

At the beginning of the 56th legislature of the Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Sul, the leaders of the 15 parties that won seats in the 2022 elections are already defined.

With some novelties and other names already known, the acronyms are already starting to prepare the parliamentarians who will be in charge of the negotiations of votes and matters with the other parliamentarians.

The only party that hasn’t hit the hammer yet is União Brasil, which, for now, will keep deputy Aloísio Classmann as leader in the plenary. The left in Rio Grande do Sul will also have more experienced politicians to face in the articulation of the House. Fernando Mainardi (PT) and Luciana Genro (PSOL), who already led their groups in the last legislature, will once again have this responsibility. Bruna Rodrigues, former councilor of Porto Alegre, newcomer to the Assembly and the only state deputy elected by the PCdoB in 2022, will naturally be leader of her bench.

Four other parties have only one parliamentarian in the House. Elizandro Sabino (PTB), Elton Weber (PSB), Felipe Camozzato (Novo) and Gaúcho da Geral (PSD) will also be present at the leaders’ meetings, which usually define the agenda of projects to be voted on before the sessions.

“The expectation is good. The past legislature was already quite troubled. We faced a structural reform of the State, then the pandemic came. Now, for this next (legislature), we come with the expectation of reaping the fruits of all the work that we did in the past”, said Juliano Franczak, the Gaucho da Geral.

Some rookies already arrive at the Assembly as leaders of their benches. Delegado Zucco will be the leader of the PL in the Gaucho Parliament and Valdir Bonatto will be in charge of the PSDB bench.

“I was very happy with the unanimous choice of the other four deputies to appoint me as leader of the bench, even though I was new to the Legislative Assembly.

Perhaps it was due to the 25 years of public activity in the area of ​​security, as a police chief, and having the knowledge of how the State machine works, what are the difficulties and how far the State can reach”, said Delegado Zucco, from the PL.

Still, Edivilson Brum will be leader of the MDB, Guilherme Pasin of the PP, Eduardo Loureiro of the PDT, Rodrigo Lorenzoni of the PL and Airton Lima of Podemos.

“It is a challenge to be the leader of any group in the Assembly. I understand that it is a challenge, regardless of the size of the group, due to the responsibilities that the role brings. In a group of five parliamentarians, this challenge becomes even greater. I have been preparing a lot, since that was defined, to be able to play the role with quality”, declared Rodrigo Lorenzoni, from PL.
