Judge Thaís Araújo Correia, from the 13th Civil Court of Brasília, ordered the removal of the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, from the presidency of the PSDB. She also ordered the party to hold a new election for the national executive within 30 days. This Monday’s decision responded to a lawsuit filed by the mayor of São Bernardo do Campo, Orlando Morando.

Morando requested the nullity of the second extension of the PSDB’s national executive committee, which would keep Leite in charge of the party until November. He claimed that the party’s statute allows for a single extension. To the Estadão, Leite’s advisor emphasized that, in his understanding, he continues to be in charge of the party until the new election is held. The PSDB is still awaiting judicial notification about the case. With the decision, governors Raquel Lyra (PE) and Eduardo Riedel (MS), who held positions as vice-presidents of the collegiate, will also leave their roles.
