The Court of Justice of São Paulo determined, this Tuesday (13), the blockage of R$ 77.4 thousand of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) due to fines imposed on him during a visit to cities in the interior of the state without the use of a protective mask in 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The fines would have been imposed by the Sanitary Surveillance of the State of São Paulo for failing to comply with the sanitary decree during visits to the municipalities of Eldorado, Iporanga and Ribeira, in August of that year. According to the decision of judge Ana Maria Brugin, Bolsonaro would not have paid off the debt.
“I grant the request of the Treasury of the State of São Paulo and determine the unavailability of money in deposit or financial application of the debtor(s), existing in institutions linked to the Central Bank of Brazil, by blocking amounts up to the debt limit executed”, says in the decision (see in full).
In addition to the three debts in the interior municipalities, there are still four other infractions to which the former president responds in the state, such as during demonstrations and events in São Paulo, Sorocaba and Presidente Prudente. The use of a mask was mandatory throughout the state until April 2022.
