The Federal Court has blocked, at the request of the AGU (Advocacy-General of the Union), R$ 95.6 million in assets belonging to Amazon deforesters since the body created, in March, a group to adopt legal measures for the protection of biomes and of Brazilian cultural heritage.
In a statement, the AGU said that the unavailability of goods was obtained in five injunctions: three in cases in Pará and two in Roraima. A total of 34 actions were presented that charge almost R$ 500 million from deforesters in the Amazon and the Cerrado.
The body also said that it will participate in the preparation of a report that will assess whether the decisions of Justice are observing the guidelines of the CNJ (National Council of Justice) for the quantification of environmental damage. The document will be produced by a working group created by the CNJ itself.
The Lula government adopted a series of initiatives, on different fronts, to seek to reduce deforestation in the two biomes, in addition to seeking to punish those responsible for illegal actions.
