Justice blocks BRL 87,000 from Bolsonaro for fines during pandemic

The Justice of São Paulo determined the blocking of BRL 87,000 in accounts of former president Jair Bolsonaro for non-payment of fines during the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The blockade was determined by Judge Ana Maria Brugin, from the Tax Execution Court.
During the pandemic, Bolsonaro was fined by the São Paulo government on several occasions for not wearing a mask on visits he made to some cities in São Paulo. At the time, the São Paulo government – commanded by João Doria – required the use of a mask throughout the state and its non-compliance was subject to fines.

Bolsonaro received at least seven fines for failing to comply with health standards in São Paulo. The first of them was applied after he participated in a demonstration in the capital of São Paulo, on June 12, 2021. On June 25, a new fine was applied for not wearing a mask at an event in Sorocaba. The third fine was issued on July 31, in Presidente Prudente.
Three fines were also applied for visits to three cities in the Vale do Ribeira region, in August 2021: Iporanga, Ribeira and Eldorado. The seventh fine was registered after he participated in an act on September 7, 2021, on Avenida Paulista.
So far, the former president has not commented on the decision of the São Paulo court.
