The drought that has affected the northern region of Amapá in recent months is a cause for concern for state deputy Júnior Favacho (MDB), president of the Agriculture and Supply Commission (CAB) of the Legislative Assembly of Amapá (Alap). One day after the city of Tartarugalzinho declared a state of emergency in the region, the parliamentarian made a flight over the areas affected by the drought, to assess the fires and the severe shortage of water in rivers and lakes, which resulted in shortages for the population.
Júnior Favacho, accompanied by the mayor of Tartarugalzinho, Bruno Mineiro, highlighted the seriousness of the situation in the region. The drought not only harms the population, but also affects agriculture and livestock in the Lagos area. As president of the CAB, the deputy emphasized the importance of the political class joining efforts to find solutions.
“We are here to closely monitor the situation and offer our help to Mayor Bruno Mineiro, in order to minimize the impacts of this drought. This week, Alap will hold an Itinerant Session in Tartarugalzinho to discuss this problem. Furthermore, I will speak with the other deputies and with our federal bench to work together on a solution that avoids further damage to the population and producers”said the deputy.
Junior Favacho highlighted that the region’s rivers and lakes are crucial not only for the supply of water, but also for the transport and marketing of agricultural and livestock products. He expressed concern about the numerous fires in Tartarugalzinho, which currently leads the number of fires in the state, threatening the region’s fauna and flora.
Emergency situation
On Friday, October 13, Tartarugalzinho City Hall declared a state of emergency due to the drought. In the decree, Mayor Bruno Mineiro informed that the municipality is working tirelessly to ensure that the community has access to the water and resources necessary to face this situation. The mayor explained that the signing of the emergency decree aims to ensure that support is obtained to protect the population.
