The retirement of Federal Supreme Court (STF) Minister Rosa Weber, in October, increases the pressure for Lula (PT) to nominate a woman to replace her on the Court. And a new name began to be considered around the president: that of judge Simone Schreiber, from the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region, in Rio de Janeiro.

The magistrate, who has a master’s degree in Constitutional Law and a doctorate in Public Law, is the author of the book “The Oppressive Publicity of Criminal Judgments”, a treatise on freedom of expression and how the press can influence the conviction of the accused whether or not they make a fact-finding.

The work, which has a preface by STF Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, has already been cited by other Court magistrates on different occasions.

In a judgment of great impact and repercussion, Schreiber gave the leading vote of the trial that found a sergeant accused of kidnapping, raping and keeping Inês Etienne Romeu in private prison in the Casa da Morte, as the property that the dictatorship’s repression organs was known. kept in Petrópolis, in Rio, to torture and kill political prisoners.
