Judge orders payment of R$ 1.3 million to military known as “Brazilian Pablo Escobar”

Judge Marcelo Andrade Campos da Silva, from the Justice Department of Mato Grosso do Sul, ordered the payment of R$ 1.3 million to retired Major Sérgio Roberto de Carvalho, from the State Military Police, who became known in Europe as “Brazilian Pablo Escobar”. ”.

The decision of the 4th Public Treasury Court of Campo Grande also determined the need to seize assets and values ​​following an order from the 14th Federal Court of Curitiba, referring to the period in which Carvalho faked his own death in Spain, between the years of 2011 and 2015.

In this last year, in which he was supposedly dead, the soldier filed a lawsuit against the INSS agency in Mato Grosso do Sul asking for a review of the benefits for the period and the payment of R$ 516.6 thousand. The case was processed by the Superior Court of Justice and the Federal Supreme Court until 2022, which denied an appeal by the Social Security.

With that, Judge Marcelo Andrade determined the payment of the amount to the drug dealer, updated to R$ 1.3 million. However, at the same time, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paraná asked the Federal Justice of the State to seize the military’s assets in the amount due to “the former police officer’s criminal activities”.

Sérgio Roberto de Carvalho is suspected of running a criminal organization specializing in cocaine trafficking to Europe, having sent 45 tons of the drug between 2017 and 2019. During this period, the retired military would have laundered millions of dollars in front companies.

In 2020, the organization he commanded was the target of Operation Enterprise, which served 149 search and seizure warrants and 66 arrest warrants in 10 states against the organization, with the kidnapping of approximately R$ 400 million in drug trafficking assets. The warrants were issued by the 14th Federal Court of Curitiba.
