Journalist, political scientist and historian Lucia Hippolito died this Wednesday (21), aged 72. She was hospitalized at Hospital Samaritano, in Botafogo, south of Rio de Janeiro, due to complications arising from lung cancer.
Hippolito stood out as a presenter and commentator for CBN radio and GloboNews. She also participated in the painting “Meninas do Jô” in the show of presenter Jô Soares, on TV Globo.
She has published books such as “PSD by Foxes and Reformists” (Peace and Land), “Inside the Lula Government: Notes in a Logbook” (Futura) and “Politics: Who Does, Who Sends, Who Obeys” (Nova Fronteira) , co-authored with João Ubaldo Ribeiro.
Born in Bauru (SP), Lucia worked as chief of staff for the presidency of the IBGE. She began her career in the Rio de Janeiro press as a consultant for the newspaper O Globo in the 1990s. In 2002, she became a political commentator for CBN.
“He was always enthusiastic about life, he loved what he did. He started to study political science and became enchanted with the stories of Brazilian politics,” said journalist Merval Pereira to TV Globo.
The death was confirmed on his Twitter profile. “It is with great sadness that we announce that Lucia has left. She fought the good fight and is greatly missed, our great journalist and eternal teacher.”
The journalist was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré disease in 2012, when she fell ill during a trip to Paris. Since then, she has been away from professional activities. Last year, she removed a tumor in the uterus, but the cancer had metastasized to other organs, reaching the lung.
Lucia is survived by her husband, Edgar Flexa Ribeiro, owner of Andrews College.
