José Aldo made weight (61kg) this Thursday afternoon and confirmed his debut in professional boxing. The former UFC champion will face Argentine Emmanuel Zambrano, who also successfully crossed the scales, in the main event of Shooto Boxing, scheduled for this Friday, at Upper Arena, in Rio de Janeiro.
Stepping into the ring to box professionally has always been a dream for José Aldo, who will be able to make it come true at the age of 36. Three years younger, “Gula”, as the Argentine is called, competed in three boxing matches as a professional, between 2019 and 2020, and ended up defeated in all of them.
José Aldo retired from MMA in August 2022, after a great career, winning the WEC and UFC featherweight belts. The athlete won 31 of the 39 professional fights he had, with 17 knockouts, became the greatest featherweight in history and, last month, was recognized in the UFC Hall of Fame.
The Shooto Boxe card, which will be broadcast live on the UFC Fight Pass platform, starting at 8 pm, will also feature other established MMA names, such as Johnny Eduardo, Iuri and Ildemar Marajó, Marlon Sandro and Hernani Perpétuo. Check out the full card below:
