Manaus (AM) – Deputy Joana Darc (UB) repudiated the accusations of the Brazilian Institute of the Environment (Ibama), after fining R$ 17 thousand, on Tuesday (18), the student Agenor Tupinambá, who became known for recording videos with the capybara Filó, in the municipality of Autazes (113 km from Manaus). According to the parliamentarian, the boy was subpoenaed by the institute under the accusation of mistreating the animals in the field.
In a meeting with Agenor and his family, at the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), the parliamentarian, who is president of the Commission for the Protection of Animals, Environment and Sustainable Development (CPAMA), guaranteed that she knows the scenario of people’s coexistence with animals within the state.
“Agenor is being unfairly punished with an absurd fine, being accused of mistreatment of animals, as if he were a criminal. Anyone who knows his story knows the harmonious coexistence with animals, and it is not only in Autazes that this happens, but throughout the interior of Amazonas and the rural area of the State”, he highlighted.
Subpoenas from IBAMA
According to Agenor, in addition to the fine of R$ 17,000, Ibama asked him to delete all images and videos from social networks that contain Filó and other animals. The student was also notified that he will have 6 days to deliver the capybara to the institute.
“I was summoned and it came to my knowledge that they were requesting the removal of all content that Filo had. They are accusing me of abusing, mistreating, exploiting and even killing the animals on the farm,” said Agenor.
Juridical support
Joana Darc is providing legal support to the young man, in the case of the capybara Filó. She will even participate in a meeting with the superintendent of IBAMA in Amazonas. In addition, the parliamentarian is requesting a meeting with the minister of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, to discuss the case.
“Our legal team from the Animal Commission is already acting to support Agenor, to annul the fines, and not receive these punishments on social networks and, the main thing is that the animals stay in their habitat, where they express their natural behavior, and not in a captivity or zoo. I will not allow that,” he defended.
According to information from the parliamentarian, the support work for Agenor continues with the aim of annulling the infraction notices, given the evidence that Ibama’s accusations are unfounded.
