Jaxa, Japan’s Aerospace Exploration Agency, announced on Sunday night (28, Monday morning, 29, in Japan) that its lunar probe has resumed operations.

“Last night we managed to reestablish communication with Slim and resumed operations”, stated the agency on the social network X. The news suggests that it was possible to restore power supply to the vehicle.

On the 19th, shortly after landing the Smart Lander for Lunar Research (Slim) on the Moon, the Japanese announced that they were not sure whether the probe’s solar batteries were generating energy, and so they cut off its electrical supply less than three hours after the landing.

Jaxa also published on X an image captured by the probe of a rock observed near the module.

“We immediately began scientific observations with MBC [câmera espectroscópica multibanda] and we obtained the first light for observation of 10 bands”, added the entity.

Slim made a historic landing 55 meters from its initial target, a high degree of precision. With this, Japan became the fifth country to land on the Moon — after the United States, the Soviet Union, China and India.
