Janja takes advantage of meme to criticize Zanin’s performance in the STF

First lady Rosângela da Silva, Janja, took advantage of the viralization of a meme in which she appears to make a mild criticism at least of the beginning of Cristiano Zanin’s performance in the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Recently nominated by President Lula (PT), for whom he was a lawyer, Zanin has been the target of numerous attacks from the left because of his positions considered conservative.

The video circulating on social media starts with a blurred image of Zanin. Then Janja appears taking off and cleaning her glasses to see better. But when she replaces them, she sees Minister André Mendonça, appointed to the Court by former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) – and defined by him as “terribly evangelical”.

Initially, the first lady reacted to the meme by posting, on her Twitter account, just the emoji of a woman covering her eyes, in a sign of shame. An internet user, however, insisted on demanding a more concrete answer from her. “Looks like @JanjaLula didn’t like the post very much. But we Brazilians don’t like Zanin’s nomination by @LulaOficial.”

Before Janja spoke again, the person responsible for publishing the video stated: “It’s just a meme, friend. I voted for Lula and the prerogative is his. But I’m hating all of Zanin’s conversational placements”. Finally, the first lady explained herself (a little) better. “The meme is funny, but it also has a bit of tragic in it,” she said.

Sworn in on the 3rd of this month, Cristiano Zanin has already presented six votes that displeased the progressives. Against the equation of acts of homophobia and transphobia with the crime of racial injury, the application of the principles of insignificance for two people who stole objects worth less than R$ 100 and the decriminalization of marijuana for personal use (the latter, in particular, stimulated a wave of angry messages posted by left-wing militants).

And in favor of magistrates being able to judge cases of offices where their relatives work, the recognition of the Municipal Guards as organs of the public security system and the rejection of a lawsuit that reports acts of violence practiced by the Military Police of Mato Grosso do Sul against Indians of the Guarani and Kaiowá ethnic groups.

First Lady celebrated her birthday on another international trip

Birthday of the day, Janja turned 57 and received congratulations from several politicians, authorities and supporters of the President of the Republic throughout Sunday (27) on social networks. Mainly from Lula’s ministers – from Anielle Franco (Racial Equality) to Alexandre Padilha (Institutional Relations), including Camilo Santana (Education), Ana Moser (Sport) and Luciana Santos (Science, Technology and Innovation), among others.

The first lady spent her birthday in São Tomé and Príncipe, the last stopover of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s visit to the African continent. In just these first eight months of the PT’s government, she has already accompanied her husband on more international trips than her predecessor, Michele Bolsonaro, during the four years of Jair Bolsonaro’s term. In all, 19 countries have already been visited.

According to information gathered by the political coverage website Power360the couple spent more than R$ 30 million on trips outside of Brazil until July alone – and this amount still does not include the flights paid for by the Brazilian Air Force.
