First lady Rosângela Lula da Silva, Janja, said this Wednesday (31) that she suffers misogyny every day and that she will not give up.
At an event alongside the Minister of Women, Cida Gonçalves, she stated that she wants to “re-signify” the role of the President of the Republic as a woman.
“Each time I hear a woman saying that she didn’t give up, for me it’s very important because I also know what I’m suffering from in this place I’m occupying today. What Minister Cida said about the issue of misogyny, perhaps many men cannot understand what means, but we suffer every day, I have suffered this every day”, he declared.
She said that “she wants to be more active, closer to causes” that she considers dear, such as the women’s agenda, the fight against hunger and the protection of children and young people.
The first lady said she has been talking to “wives of presidents, parliamentarians and ministers” to address the issue.
Janja has exerted wide influence with President Lula (PT). Unlike Marisa Letícia, who was the PT’s wife in his first two terms and died in 2017, Janja is more active in the government’s day-to-day.
At the beginning of his term, Lula even considered appointing her to a position at the Planalto Palace. After consulting informally about the legal viability of the measure, however, assistants presented reservations to the designation of a position for Janja under penalty of being characterized as nepotism.
