“I’ve won everything in football”

Lionel Messi is giving a show in football in the United States. In just six games for Inter Miami, the Argentine star has scored nine times. This Thursday (17), the day he was nominated for the best player award at Uefa, alongside Haaland and De Bruyne, the number 10 spoke about the change in his career and, asked if he would like to win a new Ballon d’Or from Fifa shrugged his shoulders at the awards, saying he was fully accomplished.

Normally, World Cup achievements have greater weight in the elections of the magazine France Football, responsible for the award, which would leave Messi at an advantage over the competition when he led Argentina to the third world championship in December, on penalties, against France. It would be the star’s eighth Ballon d’Or, which he won in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2021. Last year the chosen one was Karim Benzema.

“What do I think about another Ballon d’Or? I’ve always said that this is an award that means a lot in football and is one of the best at an individual level, but I’ve never given it that much importance because I’ve always said that I prefer club trophies”, he said. “To tell you the truth, I’m not thinking about it. If it arrives, it’s good, if not, nothing happens. I’ve won and conquered everything in football and now I’m just enjoying the moment.”

Lifting the World Cup cup completed the number 10’s gallery of trophies. “I won the most important thing in my career, which is the World Cup. I don’t care about anything after that”, he emphasized.

Messi also revealed that he is very happy with the move from France to the United States, where he always wanted to live and lives in a luxurious apartment with his wife and three children. His family, by the way, was the reason he agreed with Inter Miami.

“Moving from Barcelona to Paris was difficult, but here in Miami the situation is different, and I’m happy,” he guaranteed. “My wife and children were part of the decision to come. I came here to continue to enjoy football.”
