Striker Neymar, 31, said on Wednesday night (18) that he will need the help of family and friends during the recovery process from ruptures in the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee during the 2-0 defeat against Uruguay, in the World Cup qualifiers.
“It’s a very sad moment, the worst,” the player said on social media.
The injury was confirmed after clinical and imaging exams in São Paulo.
“I know I’m strong, but this time I’m going to need my (family and friends) even more. It’s not easy to go through injury and surgery, imagine going through it all again after four months of recovery,” he said.
The athlete also stated that he has faith and said he is counting on God to renew his strength. He thanked them for the messages of support.
In February this year, the striker suffered a ligament sprain in his right ankle and was sidelined for 15 games.
The Brazilian played just 17 matches in 2023, including Paris Saint-Germain (the club he recently left), the national team and Al Hilal.
Neymar will undergo surgery, on a date yet to be defined, to correct the injuries. According to the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), the medical department of the Brazilian team and that of the Saudi club Al Hilal, where the player plays, are in permanent contact.
Famous friends of the player showed solidarity after the outburst, including singers Ludmilla and Michel Teló, player Kaká and presenter Fernanda Gentil.
