New billion-dollar investments are on their way to Itapoá, on the North Coast of Santa Catarina. The city was the fifth fastest growing in Brazil between 2010 and 2022, a period in which the population jumped from 14,800 inhabitants to 30,800 inhabitants.

One of the investments is the continued expansion of the current port terminal. “The expectation is that over the next ten years an additional R$2 billion will be invested, depending on the expansion of demand”, says the president of Porto Itapoá, Cássio Schreiner.

According to him, a 10% increase in the movement of cargo for export and import is expected next year. This year, the terminal has already handled 1.1 million TEUs (unit equivalent to a 20-foot container).

New routes are made available frequently. “It’s a dynamic process,” says the executive. Operations reach the main ports around the world.

Another initiative is in the plans of Coamo, the largest cooperative in Brazil, which intends to build a new port terminal in the city of Santa Catarina.

Investments are estimated at R$1 billion and include the construction of three berths for grains, fertilizers, liquids and gas. There is still no deadline for the start of works.

The impacts can contribute to the continued good economic momentum in the city. “The announcement of the installation of a new private port, in addition to the expansion of the Itapoá terminal and investments in doubling access to the site, are important attractions for civil construction”, says the president of the Construction Industry Union of Joinville and Region (Sinduscon), Carlos Lopes.
