Recently, the Federal Government published a decree authorizing the optional point so that federal employees can watch the games of the Brazilian women’s team, which is disputing the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. “Companies are expected to apply the principle of equality and release their employees to watch the women’s team games. If the employee expresses the desire to follow the matches, the company can release him, also because this fact is already part of our culture, only now represented by women”,

The lawyer says that companies are under no obligation to release their employees to watch football matches, but that everything can be agreed between the parties.

“It is possible to establish time compensation, hour bank discount or even ask the employee to watch the games in the work environment. These are possibilities that can be studied and agreed between the parties. The combination is not expensive”,

The employee must not fear dismissal for just cause for accompanying the women’s national team. According to Isa Soter, from Veirano Advogados, a company does not usually take this kind of attitude just because its employee had their eyes glued to the tournament.

“Companies decide to dismiss an employee due to an accumulation of attitudes that do not match what the company expects of him. Dismissal comes when there is no viable means of maintenance. If a company opts for an arbitrary decision in this regard, it will go against everything that is being done for gender equity and the culture of time off in the men’s tournament”,
