IPVA 2024: 2nd installment and quota without discount begins to expire – 02/15/2024 – Market

The second installment of IPVA (Motor Vehicle Property Tax) 2024 or the single quota without discount for vehicles in the state of São Paulo with final license plates 1, 2 and 3 expires this Thursday (15). The tax payment schedule was changed due to Carnival.

IPVA payment can be made at ATMs, bank applications or at bank branches with Renavam (National Motor Vehicle Registry).

It is also possible to pay by Pix — with the generation of a QR Code, which will last 15 minutes — or by credit card, at authorized companies. The list can be consulted here.

The driver must pay attention to the expiration date. Delays in IPVA generate a fine of 0.33% per day and late payment interest based on the Selic, the economy’s basic interest rate. After 60 days, the fine percentage will be 20% of the tax amount. If the driver continues to default, the debt will be included in the active debt.

Failure to pay the IPVA prevents the vehicle from being licensed. After the deadline set by the body responsible for licensing, the car may be seized, with a fine applied by the traffic authority and seven points on the CNH (National Driving License).

VEHICLE LICENSING

Drivers who wish can choose to pre-license their vehicle. The rate is R$160.22 in 2024. It will be necessary, however, to pay off all debts that exist.

Payment starts selling in July and the calendar runs until December. Failure to license within the deadline results in a very serious infraction, removal of the vehicle from the yard, a fine of R$ 293.47 and seven points on the license, as determined by the CTB (Brazilian Traffic Code).

To obtain licensing, the person responsible for the vehicle must provide the Renavam number and pay the fee at the bank, via app, ATM or at a bank branch.

After payment, the updated digital document must be downloaded or printed via the Detran-SP, Poupatempo and Senatran websites, in addition to the Detran-SP, Poupatempo Digital and CDT (Digital Traffic Card) applications.

If there is any pending issue in relation to the vehicle, such as IPVA, fines, late licensing fee and other issues, the licensing will not be completed, even if the fee is paid, blocking the updated document.
