The Federal Police investigation indicates that the criminal faction Comando Vermelho is financing a support network to help the two prisoners who escaped from the Mossoró Federal Penitentiary, in Rio Grande Norte. The support network would be providing food, drinks and transport in the rural area of the region. Furthermore, investigators do not rule out the possibility that the fugitives obtained firearms.

The information was published by the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo, who had access to part of the investigation. On the 14th, Rogério da Silva Mendonça and Deibson Cabral Nascimento, linked to the CV, escaped from the maximum security prison. Around 600 security forces agents are working to recapture the two. The police increased the search perimeter and are now looking for the fugitives on the border between Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará.

According to the investigation, the two fugitives managed to contact members of the CV on the night of February 16, when they took a family hostage in the rural area of Mossoró. At the time, they used the hostages’ cell phone. Thus, the faction would have mediated local support from a resident of Mossoró. This Monday (26), the PF arrested the owner of a farm that housed the two fugitives for around eight days.

The site is in the rural area of the municipality of Baraúna, about 30 kilometers from the penitentiary, on the border with Ceará. Investigators point out that he would have received around R$5,000 to do the job. So far, at least six people have been arrested on suspicion of helping the two escape. The teams intensified the searches on the border of Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará.
