Internal Games of Parque do Idoso take place between the 5th and 7th in the Center-South Zone of Manaus

Manaus (AM) – The City Hall of Manaus will hold, from the 5th to the 7th of July, the 10th edition of the Indoor Games in the Municipal Park for the Elderly (Jipi). The sporting event will take place from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, on the premises of the park, located at Rua Rio Mar, nº 1.324, Nossa Senhora das Graças neighborhood, Centro-Sul zone.

In this edition, the indoor games will have the modalities of kicking the goal, futpenalty, dominoes, ring, target launch, bowling, puck, free throw in the basket, swimming, game of mesh, table tennis and bocce game. All disputes between seniors are classified according to age and into four categories: I-50 to 59; II- 60 to 64; III- 65 to 69 and IV- 70 onwards.

The indoor games are also a selection of athletes representing the Parque Municipal do Idoso (PMI) in the “Olympics for the Third Age”, held by the Manaus Sports Foundation (FME). PMI is two-time champion of the Olympics and, this year, it is training 137 seniors.

“Sports practice is very important for the elderly, as it improves health, provides well-being and brings cheer to their lives. Today, sport is one of the most important tools for social inclusion, and PMI athletes are champions in showing that they are not old enough to compete. Increasingly, Manaus City Hall has been investing in activities that promote quality of life for the elderly, promoting sports in the elderly and strengthening the Municipal Policy for the Elderly”,

declared the director-president of the Doutor Thomas Foundation, Martha Moutinho.

In addition to promoting the practice of physical exercises, integration, health and well-being of the elderly, the activities improve self-esteem and increase the spirit of competitiveness and the desire to enjoy the best of life.

“This year, we are in the tenth edition of Jipi, with a greater number of participants than last year. The training started two months ago and the seniors are looking forward to this moment of competition”,

said PMI activities manager, Ana Beatrice Carvalho.

Regina Campos, 72, has participated since the 2nd edition of Jipi in 2013 and maintains the same spirit of competitiveness until today. ”I am excited and excited about the arrival of the Jeep. Participating in this competition is always an empowering experience for me. The trainings helped all of us seniors to hone our skills and prepare for competitions,” she said.

The park works daily with sports, recreational and cultural activities with the elderly and, through competitions, such as the Jipi, they help in the emotional and physical development, contributing to the strengthening of the health of the body and mind.

• 10:00 – Goal kick competition
• 14:00 – Futpenalty competition, Mesh game and Table Tennis

• 8:00 – Hoop game, Basket free throw, Puck bat
• 2pm – Target Throwing, Bowling, Bocce Game and Dominoes

day 7/7

• 9 am – Swim competition
• 3pm – Closing afternoon dance
