O International announced, this Monday, the dismissal of coach Mano Menezes, a day after the team drew without goals with Palmeiras, in Beira-Rio, in Porto Alegre, for the 15th round of the Brazilian Championship. Auxiliary Sidnei Lobo was also dismissed.
Argentine Eduardo Coudet, who had a good spell at the club in 2019/2020, but failed at Atlético-MG this year, is the most quoted name to take over.
“The club thanks the professionals for their dedication, commitment and work done during the period, wishing them luck and success in the continuation of their careers”, wrote Internacional on its social networks. Highlighting that “Mano was in charge for more than a year. In the 2022 season, he led the team in a solid campaign in the Brazilian Championship, disputing the title of the competition and finishing with the best campaign of Inter in the accrued points, with 73 points. Also with Mano, Colorado spent 325 days without defeat in Beira-Rio, with 27 matches and 20 wins. The series was interrupted in May.”
Mano Menezes, who was booed after the draw with Palmeiras, also used social media. “I want to confirm Sport Club Internacional’s decision to dismiss our technical team. It took 15 months of work, where I did my best to get the results and overcome the difficulties the club is going through.”
The coach took the opportunity to thank the professionals with whom he worked at the club from Rio Grande do Sul. “I would like to thank the players, employees and management for their relationship of trust and transparency. Internacional is in 11th place in the Brasileirão, with 22 points. They won six games, drew four and lost five times. In Libertadores, the team will face River Plate for the round of 16.
