The INSS (National Social Security Institute) queue could fall below 1 million this month, with the effect of measures that seek to speed up initial medical examinations and administrative analysis, says the organization’s president, Alessandro Stefanutto.

In September, the backlog of applications totaled 1.635 million. “We are creating a mechanism for the insured to leave the queue and we can take advantage of this expertise scheduled for other insured”, he states.

According to him, the measure that most helps to reduce the queue is the AtestMed system, through which it is possible to send the certificate online.

“We had a small number [de análises pelo AtestMed], less than a thousand, a few hundred, and today we have a consolidated average of 10 thousand per day. In these 10 thousand, you can grant the benefit for around 7,000. So we’re already at the peak of the mountain and we’re going to start descending.”

“We understand that, in November and December, there is already more expertise on offer than the need for expertise”, he adds.

In the opinion of the secretary of the General Social Security Regime, Adroaldo da Cunha, in the coming months it will be possible to progressively reduce the number by 100 thousand per month.

He recalls that another measure that can help is an automatic 30-day extension of sick pay, which can increase the agency’s operational capacity, reducing waiting times. “The idea is to reduce expenses. This contact with people will potentially make people who are already cured prefer not to extend it and go back to work”, he says.

“One of the complaints that a lot of people make is that they would like to go back to work and they can’t because they don’t have the discharge skills. So, every 30 days, if they don’t ask for an extension, it’s because they’ve recovered and can go back. working”, concludes Cunha.
