Inheritance from father to son: Pelci Program unites generations in sport

Passionate about football, student of the Sport and Leisure Program in Capital and Interior (Pelci), dreams of being a professional player
The passion for football is capable of transcending generations. Diego de Souza Gadelha, resident of Bairro São Raimundo, and his son Vitor Douglas Melo, are examples of the love for sport. The 14-year-old young man who dreams of becoming a professional player is a student of the Sport and Leisure Program in the Capital and Interior (Pelci), at the Ismael Benigno Stadium.
“We were happy to know and strengthen stories that unite generations through sport, students, like Vitor Douglas, are certainly part of a legacy that we are treading, a new scenario for future athletes from Amazonas. With the work personified by the Pelci Program, Governor Wilson Lima reinforces our commitment to developing public policies to encourage sports in the Amazon”,
highlighted Jorge Oliveira, Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure (Sedel).
Diego de Souza, a former youth soccer player for the São Raimundo and Clipper teams, not only lived his passion for soccer on the field, but also made a point of sharing it with his son. “My father was my biggest encourager, now I’m passing it on to my son. I hope he is a man of respect, and who knows, become a professional player”,
said Diego, father of the Pelci athlete, Vitor Douglas.
The young athlete who trains at Pelci’s core, at the Ismael Benigno stadium, demonstrates determination to follow in the footsteps of his father, his biggest fan. “I have a great love for football, I am very happy to train here at Pelci, where I have been doing my best. I love the support of my father who is always by my side. I want to be a professional player and I really hope it works out”, shares the Pelci athlete, Vitor Douglas.
“I follow all of my son’s training sessions, give him tips, hope for his growth and always try to encourage him. If one day he becomes a professional player, it will be my greatest happiness and it would certainly be my father’s too”,
adds Diego Douglas.
About Pelci
Coordinated by the State Secretariat for Sports and Leisure (Sedel), the Sports and Leisure Program in the Capital and Interior (Pelci) has played a key role in offering opportunities for young talents like Vitor Douglas. More than 10,000 athletes benefit from the Government of Amazonas Program, which has promoted and enhanced sports in the state, in different modalities: soccer, futsal, volleyball (court and sand), basketball, handball, jiu-jitsu and wrestling.
Currently, the Program has 48 centers, 21 in the state capital and 27 in the interior of Amazonas, located in the municipalities of Tabatinga, São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Humaitá, Codajás, Envira and Fonte Boa.
