The President of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Minister Rosa Weber, said this Tuesday (21) that the judgment on the time frame for the demarcation of indigenous lands will be scheduled in the first half of the year – until the month of June. The statement was given during a two-day visit to Aldeia Paraná, in Vale do Javari (AM).

Weber was in the community with a delegation of judges from the National Council of Justice (CNJ), which he also presides over, with the aim of bringing the judiciary power closer to indigenous populations. The minister heard claims from members of the Marubo tribe and received a letter asking for the resumption of the trial.

The judgment of the time frame has already started, but was interrupted by a request for a view. The issue is dealt with in Extraordinary Appeal (RE) 1017365, with general repercussions, which discusses whether the date of enactment of the Federal Constitution (10/5/1988) should be adopted as a time frame for defining the traditional occupation of land by indigenous peoples.

The indigenous people ask that the time frame not be approved, which they consider “important for the maintenance of the rights conquered by the indigenous movement throughout history”, they said in the letter delivered to Rosa Weber.
