The State Indian Foundation (FEI) has been encouraging indigenous athletes, seeking to give greater sporting visibility to indigenous peoples on the national sporting scene. The expectation, according to the foundation’s director, Sinésio Trovão, is that the performance of indigenous athletes Ana Izabele, 11 years old, and Ana Isabel, 8 years old, who won gold medals in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship (CBJJ) will be replicated. ), held in São Paulo (SP), in April this year.
Representing Amazonas in the competition, they stood out in their categories. Ana Izabele won the gold medal in the children’s featherweight category. Ana Isabel also reached the podium in the children’s category.
The athletes had already won gold medals in the Junior category during the Copa América de Jiu-Jitsu held in Manaus, in 2022. In addition, Ana Izabele also won the Amazon Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu Championship in her category, later this year.
Sinésio Trovão highlights the relevance of expanding the indigenous presence in the Brazilian competition scene. “They are an example for the entire indigenous community and for Brazil because sport is a valuable tool for the inclusion and appreciation of indigenous peoples”, declared Thunder.
This Friday (22), the young athletes were received by the foundation’s technical director, Joabe Leonam, and the administrative and financial director, Carlos Alexandre, seeking an understanding to continue the commitment to support the participation of indigenous people in competitions
Kamila Mafra, the girls’ mother, thanked the foundation for the support.
“We are very happy with the girls’ achievement. FEI support was crucial for them to be able to compete in the championship. It’s a dream come true for us,”
