In reaction to the CPI that targets Father Júlio, PSOL proposes CPI on Nunes’ policy for the homeless population – 01/04/2024 – Panel

In reaction to the proposal for a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) targeting Father Julio Lancellotti, the Feminist Bench, a collective mandate of the PSOL in the São Paulo City Council, filed a request asking for the establishment of another CPI, with the growth of the number of homeless people in the city and the policies of the Ricardo Nunes (MDB) administration aimed at this population as an object.

As the Panel showed, the CPI targeting the parish priest was filed by councilor Rubinho Nunes (União Brasil) with the support of 24 colleagues and should be installed in February, upon the return of the São Paulo Legislature’s recess.

In the city of São Paulo, a census commissioned by the city hall found that the homeless population increased by 31% during the Covid-19 pandemic, growing from 24,300 in 2019 to 31,900 in 2021. In relation to 2015, when there were 15,905 homeless people, the number doubled.

In October, the TCM (Court of Auditors of the Municipality) asked the municipal management to present an action plan to welcome homeless people.

In addition to the six signatures of PSOL councilors, the Feminist Bench needs another 18 to be able to file the CPI.

Silvia Ferraro, from Bancada Feminista, states that “instead of persecuting those who help and welcome the most vulnerable part of our people, the City Council needs to investigate the reasons for the enormous failure of Mayor Ricardo Nunes’ public policies, which only increased the problem “.

In 2024, possible investigations should take on electoral contours. Lancellotti is close to Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), one of the pre-candidates for Mayor of SP in 2024.

Rubinho’s party, União Brasil, will support the re-election of Ricardo Nunes, and Kim Kataguiri, affiliated with the party, is also a pre-candidate. The party has Milton Leite, president of the City Council, as its main leader in the state.
