In Portugal, Temer speaks about fundamental freedoms – 06/28/2023 – Panel SA

Former President Michel Temer gave a lecture on democracy and fundamental freedoms this Wednesday (28) at the 11th Lisbon Legal Forum, an event organized by the IDP by STF Minister Gilmar Mendes.

In the audience were Joesley and Wesley Batista, owners of J&F, the company that controls JBS.

In 2017, Joesley was arrested by order of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) and became known for having recorded a conversation with Michel Temer (MDB) in which the then president would have encouraged him to pay R$500,000 to former federal deputy Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ) in exchange for not disclosing information to Lava Jato.

Joesley met with the then president at Palácio do Jaburu. He did not identify himself at the entrance and recorded the conversation. When he said he was “on good terms” with Eduardo Cunha, Temer said: “You have to keep that, you see …”.

The TJ-SP Special Group postponed the trial of measures related to the Eldorado case. The new session was scheduled for July 19.

The president of the collegiate, Dayse Fajardo, was forced to postpone the decision because only eight judges were present, when nine are required.

The group will have to decide two points that could unlock the billionaire dispute between J&F, from the Batista brothers, and Paper Excellence for the control of Eldorado Celulose.

It is the third time that the case has not gone to trial on the scheduled date. In the two previous ones, the judge Costa Netto, who is disputing a vacancy in the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), removed it from the agenda.
