In historic inauguration, governor of Amapá officializes the new managers of the Indigenous Peoples and of the Marabaixo Foundation – News of Brazil

The governor of Amapá, Clecio Luis, swore in this Wednesday (25) the new holders of the Extraordinary Secretariat for Indigenous Peoples (Sepi), Simone Karipuna, and the Mara Baixo Foundation, Josilana Santos. The ceremony, which also reintroduced the Secretary of Culture, Clicia di Miceli, highlighted the female participation in the New Government, as well as the indigenous and black peoples of Amapá.

With the Minister of Indigenous Peoples as a guest, Sonia Guajajara, the ceremony was marked by cultural presentations that make up the history of the state and represent Amapá.

The rise of women in leadership roles and gender parity in the composition of public administration mark the management of Clecio Louis. The new managements assume the portfolios with the missions also to combat prejudice and seek the effective application of public policies.

“Symbols are important for our self-affirmation, especially in the face of tragic episodes in our country. We have a relationship with blacks and indigenous peoples in Amapá, but we must always be on the lookout, promoting equity and social justice. The entire government team is committed to acting in an integrated manner, promoting public policies that are transversal and open to frank dialogue with our population”commented the governor.

Sonia Guajajara he said that, when he took over the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples at the beginning of this year, he was also committed to giving value to invisible people, seeking dignity, in any region of the country, and defending the forest and the goods promoted by it.

“We need to value the Amazon, and the people who are here: indigenous peoples, traditional communities, riverside people, extractivists. In the federal government, we have the mission to bring dignity to those who are starving and those who live in poverty. We live a new moment in history, with our direct participation. Seeing these women taking on a prominent position today is the result of a lot of struggle and resistance.”said the Minister of Indigenous Peoples.

The ceremony gathered several cultural manifestations from Amapá, highlighting the tradition. The National Brazilian and Amapá anthems were sung to the sound of a mara bass box and the singer’s voice Silmara Lobato. The people Wajãpi demonstrated an empowerment chant to salute the team that took over Sepi.

The program also featured a presentation by groups of African origins, a roda de maraçou with the groups Ancestrals and Filhos do Criaú, a capoeira circle, in addition to a show by the band Afro Brasil.

Also present were representatives of indigenous peoples from Amapá and Northern Pará: Wajãpi, Karipuna, Galibi-Marworno, Palikur, Galibi Kal’ina, Tiriyó, Kaxuyana, Txikuyana, Apalai, Wayana and Akuryó.

New managers

Simone Karipuna assume the Sepi with the mission of providing the institution with greater participation of the indigenous peoples who inhabit Amapá. Therefore, the secretariat will have a collegiate formation for the first time. The assistant secretaries represent 4 regions of Amapá with indigenous peoples, such as the Wajãpi, Waiana, Galibi Marworno and Galibi Kali’na.

The Marabaixo Foundation develops and implements public policies for quilombola and Afro-Amazonian communities. Josilana Santos takes over as CEO of the institution, with a work focused on racial equity.

Secult

In the re-presentation of the holder of the Secretary of State for Culture (Secult), Clicia di Miceli highlighted that one of the priorities will be to implement the State Culture System of Amapá, as a tool that regulates and guarantees cultural rights.
