Running for the presidency of the Senate, Eduardo Girão (Podemos-CE) promised his colleagues to take to the plenary at least one project per year from each of the 81 elected.
“I want to democratize the Senate. Generally, projects by the king’s friends, who are in the presidency, are voted on in plenary. What about other parliamentarians, from the opposition, for example?”, he says.
Girão also promises to have a management that brings the Senate closer to the population and restores the image of the House in relation to public opinion. To do so, he intends to reduce spending, which he now claims to be around R$5 billion a year, by at least R$500 million.
This rapprochement, he argues, also involves a more distant attitude towards the STF (Federal Supreme Court).
“One of the great points that draw attention is the credibility of the Senate, which is very bad in the eyes of public opinion, I think it only loses to the STF. Much for the lack of attitude of the Senate to analyze dozens of impeachment requests against ministers who monocratically shelved in recent times.”
Although this speech is close to that of supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who support the candidacy of former minister Rogério Marinho (PL), the senator denies that his entry into the dispute weakens the political field of the opposition.
“It does not divide the vote. Until one has the 41 votes, it will be repeated as many turns as necessary. And my candidacy strengthens a debate that will propitiate the regrouping of forces and convergence for the renovation in the House”, he says.
