Brasilia DF) – In a new decision, the Justice of São Paulo determined the blocking of over R$ 370 thousand in accounts of former President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro for non-payment of fines during the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The measure was taken by Judge André Rodrigues Menk, from the São Paulo State Tax Enforcement Court.

Bolsonaro was fined by the government of São Paulo for not using face protection masks when visiting cities in São Paulo during the pandemic, in 2021. At the time, the government of São Paulo forced the use of equipment throughout the state and non-compliance with the rule was subject to the payment of fines. To CNN today (14), the former president presented an image capture of his bank statement, which showed the blocking of R$ 317,047.52 from his account at Banco do Brasil.

At an event at the headquarters of the Liberal Party (PL) this Wednesday (14th), in Brasília, the former president commented on the judicial measure.

“For now I have funds, soon I won’t have any more. I’ll see if Valdemar [Costa Neto, presidente do PL] pays me outside so I don’t have my salary withheld. We will not despair over this. We know who is on the right side and who wants the future of their country”.

This is the second decision today by Justice requesting the blocking of amounts in Bolsonaro’s accounts. Earlier, Judge Ana Maria Brugin, from the Tax Executions Court, had already determined the blocking of BRL 87,000 in Bolsonaro’s accounts because he did not wear masks when he was in the state of São Paulo.

During the pandemic, the São Paulo government imposed at least seven fines on the former president for failing to comply with health standards in the state. The first of them was applied after he participated in a demonstration in the capital of São Paulo, on June 12, 2021. On June 25, a new fine was applied for not wearing a mask at an event in the city of Sorocaba. The third fine was imposed on July 31, in Presidente Prudente. Three fines were also imposed on visits to three cities in the Vale do Ribeira region, in August 2021: Iporanga, Ribeira and Eldorado. The seventh fine was applied after he participated in an act on September 7, 2021, on Avenida Paulista.
