Senator severely criticized Minister Marina Silva for hindering the reconstruction of the highway
Brasilia DF) – Leader of the Federal Bench of Amazonas, senator Omar Aziz (PSD) and governor Wilson Lima (União Brasil) met with the ministers of Transport, Renan Filho, and of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, to discuss emergency actions related to drought that hits the state. During the meeting, Omar reaffirmed the importance of investments in infrastructure, especially on BR-319, which is in precarious conditions.
At the meeting, held this Tuesday (26), in Brasília, a service order was signed between the municipalities of Benjamin Constant and Tabatinga, to carry out dredging with expected completion in 45 days. However, Omar remembers that the impact of the work on the Rio Negro will be felt approximately 30 days after its completion. The Senator from Amazonas took the opportunity to defend investments in the BR-319 highway, which is impassable.
“On the Madeira River, for example, the drought is making it impossible for boats to pass through. Alto Solimões is completely dry, compromising the supply of essential components for the Manaus Free Trade Zone. It is essential that the road is paved, to prevent the State from becoming isolated and suffering from a shortage of essential goods”,
highlighted.
The senator also made an appeal for the issue of BR-319 to be discussed seriously, taking into account the reality and needs of the population living in the region.
“We need to think about the people, the human beings who suffer from this situation. We can no longer allow people who don’t know the reality of the region or don’t live there to discuss the problem we face. It is important that we are united and recognize the efforts of Amazonians to protect the Amazon”,
highlighted.
Omar also highlighted that the Federal Government is acting to assist Amazonas, determining transversal action between ministries to provide assistance to areas affected by the drought.
“At this moment, we will need to count on the help of the Armed Forces to bring supplies and water. There are municipalities that, in a few days, will no longer have access to drinking water. The importance of BR-319 and the support of the Armed Forces are fundamental at this time”, said the senator.
In addition to the dredging between Benjamin Constant and Tabatinga, investments of R$41 million were announced for the Tabocal coast and another R$100 million to solve problems in Itacoatiara, one of the main grain transport routes.
Finally, Omar Aziz reiterated the need for a solution to the BR-319 issue and strongly criticized the actions of the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva. “I condemn her for causing my State to become isolated. It has no environmental proposals for Brazil. He only knows how to say ‘can’t’ and ‘shouldn’t’. I am accusing Marina Silva of being responsible for the isolation of my State, of the people of Amazonas”, concluded the senator.
