Ibama finds 60 birds in Anderson Torres’ house – 02/25/2023 – Politics

Former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres, who has been imprisoned since January, was the target of an action by Ibama this Friday (24). The agency carried out a search and seizure at Torres’ residence, in Brasília, as a result of the illegal breeding of wild birds.

The information was confirmed to UOL by Ibama and the defense of the former minister, Rodrigo Roca. The lawyer said Torres was fined, but said he would appeal. The fine is R$54,000, according to Ibram (Instituto Brasília Ambiental), which also participated in the action.

In the operation, 60 birds kept in the breeding site were found, one of them with a mutilated leg. Ibram reported that none of them were seized, but did not say why.

To UOL, the president of Ibama, Rodrigo Agostinho, stated that the inconsistencies found in the system about Torres may indicate the negotiation of the birds. During the operation, birds of the bullfinch, bluebird, and bicudo species, among others, were found. According to Agostinho, the boll weevil is on the verge of extinction, although it is possible to raise it legally. There was also a pair of blood-tiê, which are red in color.

“One of the things that caught the attention of the technicians is that there is a limit for the exchange of animal breeding. This indicates that he may be selling these birds. There is a limit of birds that can be traded and there was a much greater movement”, he said. Augustine.

The database on the registration of birds did not match what was found at Torres’ house. Some birds that are registered in his name were not on site. Torres will have to present them to Ibama, but there is still no information about the deadline.

Augustine stated that if any of them died, he would have to deliver the ring to the organ. The president of Ibama has not yet ruled out the seizure of the birds, if illegality is proven.

In a note, Ibama informed that the activity was embargoed and notified the ex-minister so that information on the animals registered in the system that were not found in the place could be presented.

Anderson Torres was booked for irregularities such as using animals in disagreement with the existing authorization, for entering false data in the system and for mutilation.

According to Ibama, the action was a result of an investigation that began last year after the identification of inconsistent information in Sispass (System for the Control and Monitoring of Amateur Bird Breeding), such as the registration of a bird under the responsibility of Torres. on behalf of someone else.

“The investigations were not focused on him. We are visiting several registered breeders who appeared in an intelligence action. And his name came up”, stated Agostinho.

According to the investigation, Torres kept an employee to look after the cages exclusively.

The former minister has been arrested since January 14, in Brasilia, on suspicion of omission and connivance with the coup attacks on January 8. At the time, he was Secretary of Public Security for the Federal District.

During searches at Torres’ house, last month, the PF found a draft of a coup decree.

The former minister denies the accusations, says that he adopted measures to prevent the invasions that took place in the coup act of January 8 and that there is “total absence” of evidence to associate him with the attacks.

About the draft, he stated in a statement that it does not have “legal viability” and that he does not know who the author of the text was.
